COACH'S CORNER

               Chad Shilson 
 

Chad has been involved in youth athletics since he was four years old starting as an athlete and continuing on as an official and a coach.  He has been a volunteer wrestling coach for both Osseo and Maple Grove High Schools along with the youth wrestling programs for the past seven years.  He currently coaches the Osseo Youth Wrestling program where they won the 2009 MN/USA State Folkstyle Championship.  He is also a Freestyle and Greco coach with the Hi-Flyers program.  He currently serves on the MN/USA Wrestling Board as the Girls' Director.

One of Chad’s many goals within wrestling is to promote and build the sport on a local, state, and national level.  He believes that the discipline, work ethic, physical and mental strength that one can achieve from participating in this sport is extremely beneficial and can help to build our youth into positive contributors to our community now and for many years to come. 
 
 

Chad wrestled as a youth in the Minneapolis Park Board system and later on wrestled for South High School ( Minneapolis) earning All-State and Academic All-State as a senior.  He finished his high School career with a record of 117-22-3.  He then wrestled for Augsburg College, lettering all four years and being part of 2 NCAA Division III National Championship teams.  Chad continues to compete in wrestling tournaments in the Veteran's age division both on a local and national level.  In 2008 and 2009 he was a USA Wrestling Veteran's Division Folkstyle and Greco Roman National Champion and Freestyle Runner-up. 
 

His other interests include marathon running, water skiing and the martial art of Tae Kwon Do, in which he holds a second – degree black belt.  Chad is a Senior Vice President – Investments with UBS Financial Services.  He and his wife Margaret reside in Maple Grove with their two children, who are also both wrestlers in the Osseo Youth Wrestling program.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scott Lewison

 

The 2009-10 season will be Scott’s 4th official year as a coach with Osseo Youth Wrestling, although he has helped out since 2003.  Scott really enjoys coaching the youth program and seeing the smiles on kids’ faces as they begin to accomplish their goals. 

 

Scott started wrestling in kindergarten and continued all through college.  He was a three-year varsity wrestler for Owatonna High School, placing 3rd at the State High School Tournament as a senior.  After high school, he went to Rochester Community College where he was a two-time National participant placing 7th his second year to earn All-American status.

 

Scott began his coaching career after college at a school in Galesville, Wisconsin.  After that he joined the Eden Prairie wrestling program coaching the 7th- - 8th grade team for one year before moving up to the varsity team as an Assistant Coach.

 

Scott currently lives in Maple Grove with his wife and two children.  His son has been involved in Osseo Youth Wrestling since he was 5 years old.  Scott works as a Builder Sales Representative in the hearth industry.  In addition to wrestling, his hobbies include golf and snowmobiling.
